Being Person-Centered: for families
Learn about how to steward your loved one’s HUMANITY while the educational system takes care of the supports. We live in a world right now where the focus is on what’s wrong with a person, what they can’t do, and what needs to be fixed. While education and lifelong supports are necessary, they should not be considered first. Learn about the essential elements of person-centered planning and how plans can inform an IEP to reflect a person’s gifts and the contributions they can make to their communities in and out of school.

a Workshop for PROVIDERS AND AFC CAREGIVERS
Absent from conversations about care for citizens with disabilities is their relationships with their communities. Do they have friends other than family and caregivers? Are they given opportunities to create authentic relationships? Loneliness is the most common complaint of those we love, and it contributes to long mental and physical health issues. Happiness is the most common desire for families and caregivers when asked what they most want for their loved ones. It’s time to shift the conversation about care so that it includes supporting relationship building.
